Hot Nights Cool Films 3 in August
(released 7/20/2006)

Hot Nights Cool Films 3, a summer mini-fest presented by CAJE and the Miami Jewish Film Festival, offers unique national and international films August 5th and 6th, exclusively at the Cosford Cinema.

The festival's diverse line-up includes the Darien Dilemma by award-winning Israeli filmmaker Erez Laufer and his father, who weave documentary footage and fiction to tell this little known story. In 1941, a ship (the Darien) purchased by the Israeli Mossad for the purpose of rescuing Jews, had unexpectedly been sold to the British as a war ship, leaving 1000 refugees stranded in Vienna awaiting their fate.

Until Tomorrow Comes, is an engaging Israeli film about a woman dealing with intergenerational problems -- a mother suffering from dementia, a daughter facing a marital crisis and rebuking a love-struck police officer.

The documentary Hitmakers, follows a group of ambitious teenagers during the 50's and 60's who created a musical revolution. What common threads are shared by the legendary Carole King, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller, and Neil Sedaka? With dozens of interviews, hit classic songs and never before seen home movies, this film presents a memorable period in the history of rock 'n' roll.

Live and Become, directed by Radu Mihaileanu (Train of Life), is the story of one boy's survival from the Ethiopian famine of the mid 80's, and the challenges he faces throughout his adolescence in finding his cultural and religious identity.
