Telemundo In Your Future
(released 1/3/2005)

Network Pioneers Educational Program and Provides a Unique Opportunity for Aspiring Hispanic Writers

Telemundo announced the creation of "Taller Telemundo: Escritores," an innovative educational program designed to inspire, discover, recruit and train the next generation of telenovela writers. In a strategic alliance with Miami Dade College, North Campus, School of Entertainment and Design Technology, Telemundo has created this dynamic new program to provide curriculum that specifically prepares and retains Hispanic writers in the ever popular telenovela genre. "Taller Telemundo: Escritores" also serves those in the community who have experience in the industry and desire to upgrade or enhance their writing skills.

"As primary producers of telenovela content, we are proud to be part of this pioneering effort to cultivate a pipeline of future Hispanic talent and provide the best and brightest with hiring opportunities" said Don Browne, Chief Operating Officer, Telemundo. "Telemundo's resources, combined with Miami Dade College's high-quality education standards, are sure to provide a valuable opportunity to aspiring Latino writers."

The program will select up to 30 prospective students from qualified applicants to participate in a highly competitive 10-month instructional program in Miami, Florida. Students will receive comprehensive, broad-based instruction on the structure of telenovela writing, as well as insights into the critical role of the telenovela writer in the production process, with a view toward targeting the U.S. Hispanic television audience.

"Miami Dade College is a lifeline to our community - teaching our finest. Our primary responsibility is educating professionals essential to our workforce," said Dr. José A. Vicente, President, Miami Dade College, North Campus. "Our mission, in this particular endeavor, is to inspire and train our students to lead the next generation of telenovela writers. Miami Dade College, North Campus is proud to take part in this pioneering partnership with Telemundo, which represents a new avenue of opportunity, as it is the only one of its kind in higher education."

Telemundo executives will play an integral role in the students' training, particularly during the first 4 weeks of the program's intensive workshops. Creative writing exercises, character development, and hands-on experience are designed to effectively inspire and train students to one day lead the next generation of Spanish-language telenovela writers. In turn, creative and successful alumni of this exciting new program will offer Telemundo and the entertainment industry a highly trained workforce.

The application process begins mid-November and will close on January 31, 2005. "Taller Telemundo: Escritores" is open to Telemundo employees, students of Miami Dade College, students of other educational institutions of higher learning, and the general public who possess the requisite writing skills and a passion for the telenovela genre. The program will provide selected students with tuition, books, and other classroom materials and program benefits, at no cost.
